When traveling on the Shinkansen, ensure to always grab your ticket after walking through a gate. Sometimes you place it in and grab it on the other side. Our friends got eaten up and we had to speak with the attendants, which were nice and helpful. But could have ended up having to buy another ticket.

Just got back from Tokyo! Pro tip: Get a Suica card immediately at the airport - it makes navigating the trains SO much easier. Also, the convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson) have amazing food!

Be careful with pickpockets around tourist areas, especially the Eiffel Tower and Metro. Keep your valuables in a front pocket or a secure bag.
The sunrise at Mount Batur was absolutely breathtaking! Started the hike at 3:30 AM and reached the summit just in time. Totally worth waking up early!
